I’m really starting to get the hang of this early morning wake up thing now. I can imagine doing this long term rather than seeing it as a short term experiment in how much I can torture myself each morning! I also had a good look at myself in the mirror and asked myself some difficult questions after the earthquake here in Istanbul yesterday. It’s a good time to reflect.
5AM Get Sweating Fatty fatty boom boom: I can feel the energy rising slightly and I pushed through my usual 200 push ups and 200 sit ups.
I’m still experimenting with different abdominal exercises for my second hundred sit ups. I’ve been doing research online and I’m working out what exercises are right for me. All this exercise is really starting to pay off.
5:20AM Contemplate master: Sticking to my daily diary for the first ten minutes and goal work for my second ten minutes. I know I’ve been thinking about changing this second block but I like doing it like I do it and I like the routine of it. It’s the only block that I really look forward to.
I can’t say that I look forward to doing 200 push ups and 200 sit ups at 5AM in the morning but I can say that I look forward to writing in my daily diary and my goal work.
I’ll have to do some separate posts on what I do for my daily diary as I’ve had a couple people ask about it now. Do you use a daily diary as part of your morning routine? Do you think it helps?
5:40AM Learn smarty pants, learn: Still reading What Doesn’t Kill Us by Scott Carney. I’m getting closer to finishing it. I’ll finish it and think about it more before I decide whether I can recommend the book or not.
Some books you start recommending them after a few chapters but others you have to read them and think about it before you can decide. This is one of the latter books. I can say that it’s an easy read and it gets you thinking about your body though.
I’ve neglected my physical body much of my life and it shows. I’ve always been more comfortable dwelling in spiritual and emotional realms as I’m an introvert who creates, thinks and asks too many questions. But I’m finding that the body is just as important as any other part of the whole.
29th Day of the 5AM Morning Routine
Today was a reflection day. Yesterday made me think about my whole life. And by yesterday I mean the earthquake here in Istanbul. I don’t think anyone was injured but it’s a very frightening thing to experience. Being in a fourth floor apartment means it’s kind of like feeling very bad turbulence on a plane: You’re powerless to do anything about it and just have to ride it through.
So, the main thing to come out of it all was to fast forward everything. Improve my health and fitness faster, improve my finances faster, improve my relationships faster, improve my energy faster, improve my thinking faster. Do everything more today! Tomorrow is promised to nobody. All we have is now. Obviously plan and hope for the future but always know that now is where the action happens, be conscious of it.
Exercise: 300 push ups, 250 sit ups. 70+ minutes walking
Diet: I had McDonalds today. And they brought me a large bottle of Coke for free because their ice cream machine wasn’t working. So many levels of wrong in that sentence..lol
How Can I Improve?
Continue to improve but speed things up even more. I know that I am making tiny improvements every day, every week, every month.. but everything could easily be sped up without putting too much stress and strain on my being.
Conclusion for Day 29 of my 5AM Club Journey
All is good, life is good, I am good, I’m alive, I’m healthy, I’m happy, I’m smiling, I’m love, I’m light, I’m energy.
I’m really feeling much better about this morning routine when I commit to it 100%. I wasn’t fully committed to the 5am wake up time for the first couple of weeks or more. I didn’t see it as all important, but it is. I think I had to smash my ego into submission to make this work.
Now that I’m relentless with the 5AM wake up time things are starting to get easier. Every morning isn’t a fight with myself. There’s no ifs or buts anymore, it’s simple: just get out of bed and move. If I have problems I work them out during push ups or my daily diary time.

Have you read the 5AM Club book by Robin Sharma yet? You should! 😎
