Another new week on my 5AM club journey. I did’t post yesterday as it was Sunday and I have decided to have Sundays off, meaning no alarm clocks and no exercise, unless I’m out enjoying the great outdoors. This week I plan to focus on the 5AM wake up time religiously, just as I did last week when I had plenty of energy.
5AM Early morning wake up and Exercise: I was keen to leap out of bed today after having my Sunday off. After washing myself off and getting ready for the day, I jumped straight into my push ups. Like usual my first fifty are always challenging. It takes 50 for my body to wake up.
Then I do 50 sit ups and continue mixing it up until I complete 200 push ups and 200 sit ups. The last 50 sit ups I mixed up to work different parts of my abdominal muscles. The first 150 are crunches and the others are to work my lower stomach muscles.
I also had a partial cold shower. I splashed cold water all over my body and kept the shower on my lower body. I did that for a couple of minutes and then finished with warm water. I’m not good with cold showers.
5:40 Early morning wake up and Contemplate: Again I worked on my daily diary and my goal visualizations. I pick a goal that I have and I write about a day in my life after I have achieved it, writing it like it was today. I’ve never tried this before so I don’t know how well it works but I enjoy doing it, so lets see how it goes.
6:00 Early morning wake up and Learn: I’m continuing to read the Scott Carney book called What Doesn’t Kill Us. He’s talking about how Wim Hof, he, and a group of followers using the Wim Hof method are preparing to climb the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. Which sounds challenging enough by itself but they’re going to do it in 48 hours and shirtless.
I’m not sure I’ll take away much from the book other than using it as a stepping stone to going elsewhere to learn the breathing techniques of Wim Hof. I’m hoping the author will teach some breathing methods in the remaining chapters. Otherwise it’ll be mere entertainment and I won’t have learned much at all. Actually, I’ve learned of the existence of brown fat, so I would be lying if I said I haven’t learned anything!
26th Day of the 5AM Club Habit
After I did my one hour of power morning routine I worked on my weekly design. This is a list of things to do for the entire week. I plan to refer to it daily and tick off as many things as possible.
I listed both easy and more challenging things to do so that I’m regularly ticking boxes and feeling like I’m succeeding. I don’t think it makes much sense to make an impossible to do list. I always feel bad when I look at my to do list and see that I’ve failed to do many of the tasks. Push yourself, add challenging tasks to do, but don’t make it a mountain that you know you can’t or wont climb.
Exercise: 250 Pushups, 300 situps, walked for 60+ minutes
Diet: Had some wheat, had some sugar 🤪
How Could I Improve?
Get more serious about food. Should I start with very strict days? One day of all vegetables or salads and nothing else? Perhaps One day per week where I have nothing manufactured or processed.
Conclusion for Day 26 of the 5AM Club Morning Routine
Here’s a good quote that I just posted on Twitter here by James Clear..
Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.
I’m fascinated by habits at the moment as habits make us who we are. If we’re not living up to our full potential then our habits are to blame.
