Soooo, the past week was a failure in terms of sticking to the 5AM club morning routine. I was already faltering the week before I went away on holidays for a few days and then I ramped up my failures after the holiday. So I didn’t keep a record of each day over the past seven days. It’s Sunday now and I will be rebooting on Monday.
Firstly, the holiday was great. I really needed to get away and relax. It was internet and gadget free as I didn’t take my notebook or iPad with me, so that was a nice change.
And the place I went to was an Island here in Turkey called Bozcaada. I had to take two car ferries to get there and I passed through Gallipoli. All Australians will know this place from the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. I didn’t stop at any memorials but I did stop at a winery and bought some wine made in Gallipoli!
I went with my friend, her mum, and three dogs. So three people and three dogs. Obviously the hotel we stayed at was dog friendly.
We all went swimming, got lots of sun, had some fun, ate lots of great food and had an excellent time. It was good to drop out, relax and recharge the batteries.
The day after we arrived home from Bozcaada island I had very little energy. And then the next day I woke up with a sore shoulder so I couldn’t exercise properly. I couldn’t do push ups and I even struggled with walking! I still managed to do sit ups while I had the shoulder injury though.
I think my body just wanted a break for a while. I’ve been giving my body a rest on Sundays, but maybe it also needs an extended break every couple of months? It’s something I will have to experiment with. Should it be one week off every 2 or 3 months?
It’s something I’ll have to become more conscious of. I’ve never been an athlete or a particularly active person so I don’t have an intimate knowledge of my body under the stress and strain of hard physical exercise over extended periods of time. This is all pretty new to me so I’m learning as I go.
But anyway, back to the 5AM club morning routine and where I now stand with it. I was going to restart from day 1, but have decided to continue on from my last day which was Day 19.
I know this then creates a problem with the whole “66 days to create a habit” concept but hey, such is life. If the morning routine has value and improves my life I’ll use it for much longer than 66 days anyway. And I believe the 5AM club morning routine does have value, that’s why I’m pushing on with it even though I’m really struggling to adopt it.
So I’ll start tomorrow morning, Monday, day 20 of the 5AM club morning routine habit installation. To see my previous days go here.
Was you successful the first time you joined the 5AM club or did you also fail in the beginning? Does it get easier? Let us know in the comments.
