Day one of my 66 day journey with the 5AM Club was a success. I know there will be challenges ahead but my first day was pretty easy and I was very productive. I keep a journal of all the productive and positive things that I do throughout each day and it was much more full than usual. It felt like I had a ton of time and I had plenty of energy all day.
5:00AM: I woke up and washed my face, washed my mouth out and said my I AM affirmations. At the start and finish of each day I say my affirmation, regardless of whether I’m doing the 5AM thing or not. It’s just a given.
5:10AM: I started my intense workout to get my body sweating. This felt very foreign to me as it was dark outside and my body really didn’t know what hit it.
I persisted though and ended up doing a total of 200 push ups, 100 sit ups and the rest was aerobic jogging, dancing and punching.
I didn’t realize how cold it was at this time in the morning as I’m usually asleep in my warm and comfortable bed! But I started sweating at about the 15 minute mark and continued to sweat for a little while after my 20 minute workout.
It definitely woke me up though and there was no chance of going back to bed now.
5:30 AM: (Reflect) I used about half of this time to a “daily diary” like Sharma suggests. I’ve kept journals off and on all of my life so I already know how useful this can be.
The other 10 minutes left of the reflecting part of the hour of power I used to plan for the rest of the day. I set myself a bunch of tasks that I had been putting off for months, tasks that could increase my income.
5:50 AM: (Grow) And the last 20 minutes I used to continue reading the 5AM Club book. I’ve almost finished it. Plus I’m taking a lot of notes as the book isn’t actually mine, so I’ll be returning it when I’m finished with it. I’ll probably buy the audiobook version of it when I return the hard copy.
The First Day with the 5AM Club
Overall it was a massive success for me. I got so many more things done and I had an abundance of energy all day. I know this is like the honeymoon period but I’m prepared for challenges and excuses to start coming from all directions. I know that my ego isn’t going to like being told what to do and I’m expecting it to throw a child tantrum sometime soon, but I’m ready and armed with a feather duster hehe.
Exercise: I did 400 pushups, 100 situps and walked for 75 minutes.
Diet: I ate well fairly well. I did have a late dinner of ramen noodles though. No sugar.
How Could I Improve?
Firstly, I need to get used to going to bed much earlier. Ideally I like to have close to 8 hours sleep per day. Anything above 7 hours sleep is good for me. But if it’s 6 hours or less I start to lose focus during the day. I’m sure some people are fine on 5 hours sleep but I’m not one of those people. So I want to be in bed before 10 so I can have at least 7 hours sleep.
Secondly, my food intake was good but it could be better. My main focus this week will be to minimize sugar and wheat. I’m doing enough exercise, I just need to improve my diet a little more to get rid of the extra weight I’m carrying.
Thirdly, I need to plan my days better and work the plan to precision. I have three main focuses for my workday, so I need to give each of those 3 focuses equal attention.
5am Club Conclusion for Day 1
All good. Just stay focused, stay committed, stay strong. Here’s some of my I AM Affirmations that I listened to during the day. I’ll be keeping my 5AM Club Journal posts here.
Let me know in the comments if you have done the 5AM club morning routine. Was you successful? Did it help your life? How?
