My wake up time was an improvement on yesterday, but not by much. I managed to climb out of bed at 6:40AM this morning. That’s three late days in a row on the 5AM Club challenge. I’ll be sure to make it out on time tomorrow as it looks like I’m creating a morning routine habit that starts with a 6. Still, life is good 😀
6:50 AM Get active: I seem to have settled on starting the day with 200 push ups, 100 sit ups and some aerobic exercise. At some point I’m sure I’ll change it up but I’ll stick to these exercises for now.
I tried lifting some weights on one of the mornings but it felt odd doing it at 5 in the morning.
7:10 AM Ponder life: I changed my second block of time up a little bit today. For the first ten minutes I did the daily diary like usual as I find them very useful.
For the second 10 minutes I worked out what it would require to be financially free for me. To be able to live comfortably from investment income alone. I need $1.5 million Australian dollars. $500 thousand for an investment property, $400 thousand on good dividend paying stocks, $100 thousand business, and $500 thousand for a home. Between all of those I would be able to bring in more than $1,000 per week.
7:30 AM Learn baby learn: So I have started to read What Doesn’t Kill Us by Scott Carney. I’ve only read the foreword and the introduction so far but it’s looking pretty good. He spent a lot of time with Wim Hof who promotes the value of breathing techniques and pushing the body to extremes with ice baths and walking in the snow.
The author and Wim Hof climbed up Mount Kilimanjaro in hiking boots and a pair of shorts. So they’re pretty extreme individuals. Actually the author started out as a skeptic and soon became a convert.
12th Day of the 5AM Club Morning Routine Habit Installation
Again, apart from the late wake up time, the day was a success. I only worked half of the day today but I was productive and got a few things of value finished.
For the second half of the day I went to one of the Princes’ Islands here in Istanbul. I visited the Burgazada island. It took forever to get a taxi, there was traffic, and I missed two ferries but I eventually made it. I met up with friends there as I was so late getting to the ferry station. It was an adventure finding the place by myself though so I enjoyed the trip.
It was late in the afternoon when I arrived but I still went for a swim in the sea. I haven’t been swimming for more than five years so it was quite a shock to my body. I didn’t swim out too far as my legs felt like they were about to cramp. And my legs were exhausted after about twenty minutes.
I really enjoyed it though. It felt good for my body and my mind. It felt like I was being cleansed energetically by the waves rolling in, one after the other. I would say it was meditative but my little legs were working much too frantically below the surface to be any sort of meditation.
Exercise: 250 push ups, 100 sit ups, weights and I went swimming in the sea.
Diet: It was all very healthy. I did have 2 glasses of red wine on Burgazada island at a fish restaurant.
How Could I Improve?
Again, it’s the sleep time that is holding me back. Once I get that right I will get the 5AM part right.
Conclusion for Day 12 of the 5AM Club Habit
It was a public holiday here in Istanbul so I spent half of the day outside enjoying myself. I didn’t wake up at 5AM again but I’m not too concerned. I’ll make sure that I do get up on time tomorrow though before I start to create a habit of being late!

Thanks for being here.
