So I”m back on the 5AM Club horse! Finally, after a week off, I was up at 5 this morning and I did my hour of power! I also got enough sleep lastnight so I didn’t have to sleep again throughout the day. It was a good start to the week and I’m going to see how many days in a row I can wake up on time and start the day positively.
5AM: Wake up and dance baby! After washing my face and getting ready I was doing pushups by 5:10. After my recent week off and sore shoulder it was nice to be doing push ups again. I struggled a little but I managed to pump out 200 push ups during my twenty minute workout.
I was planning to increase the amount of sit ups that I have been doing too but I could only manage to do the usual 100. I do them in 3 sets of 33 so I might start doing 3 sets of 40 tomorrow if I can. I also want to look for some more stomach exercises.
5:30AM: Reflecting pond. During my week off I continued to use my daily diary each day. Even if my body isn’t working I can still reflect in my journal.
I did about 15 minutes writing in my diary and then 10 minutes writing about my goals as if I have achieved them. Describing the details of how I think, act and feel after I have achieved my current goals. I seem to be doing this quite a lot lately and I’m finding it very helpful. It gets me motivated to put in the work and stay committed to achieving my goals. I really recommend it.
5:55AM: Learning time. I’m still reading the book by Scott Carney called What doesn’t Kill us. At the moment he’s talking about champion surfer Laird Hamilton and how he uses some of Wim Hof’s methods to train people in his back yard. So they do under water weight lifting, laps of the pool under water, hot and cold extremes, and some breathing techniques to hack and strengthen the body and mind.
20th Day of the 5 A.M. Club Morning Routine Habit
I’m not going to pretend that it was easy but I was glad to be up at 5AM this morning and doing my hour of power. I felt really confident after doing the 20/20/20 method and I was keen to start the day and week on a positive note.
I was very productive all morning and throughout the afternoon. I got a lot of important things done in the office (meaning on my laptop as I don’t really have an office..lol).
In the afternoon I was busy in the studio creating various woodwork projects and worked on some new designs.
I even worked into the evening as I was so motivated. I really need to increase my online income so that I can afford to live comfortably here in Istanbul (or anywhere else for that matter). I have an investment property back in Australia but most of the rent money just goes towards paying the mortgage. So if I could pay down that mortgage quicker and increase my online income I would be an even happier man than I am now! 🦘
Exercise: 200 push ups, 100 sit ups, 60 minutes walking.
Diet: I ate well mostly. I’m still not putting milk or sugar in my coffee. I never thought I could do that. And I’m only having one coffee per day mostly, although sometimes I will also have a Turkish coffee.
How Could I Improve
Just push on through the frustration and feelings of failure. Stay focused on the bigger goals, keep taking another small step towards a better me every day. Step forward.
Conclusion for Day 20 of my 5AM Club Experiment
It would be easy to quit now after having a week off. I could just decide to join the 7AM club and I would be pretty good at it. It would be a massive improvement on my mornings in Australia when I would crawl out of bed at 10 or 11 am. But then my ego would win and my better self would lose.
I just need to string a few good days together then a whole week, then a few weeks, and so on. I’ve got this.
See my previous days on this bumpy 5AM club ride here.
Hope you have a fantastic week. Thanks for being here.
