Up at 5AM again today on the 28th day of my 5AM Club experiment. Yesterday was a bump on my 5 days in a row of waking up on time but I’m still going to make sure I end up doing five days of being on time this week. So I’ll make sure to be up at 5AM on Saturday morning. Sundays will remain free but Saturdays are optional usually.
5:00AM Early morning Rise and Sweat: Struggling with energy this week but I’m pushing through. I managed to do 200 push ups and 200 sit ups today.
I haven’t been doing as much aerobic exercise in the morning lately. I need to find some new exercises that I like and stick to it. Some sort of exercise machine would be good, but I’ll probably just search for some exercises to do online.
5:30AM Early morning Rise and Contemplate: I’m still working on the daily diary and focusing on goals. I will work on the segment of the morning routine but for now I’m enjoying both of these exercises.
I will look at meditation and a daily to do list too. I definitely need to increase the 20 minutes though. It would have to be by at least 15 minutes as the meditation would be at least 10 minutes and the day plan would have to be at least 5 minutes. At the moment I don’t want to take time from the daily diary or goal work, so my second 20 minute section will grow to 35 minutes. I’ll look into starting it next week.
5:50 Early morning Rise and Learn: Today I reviewed my notes on the 5AM Club book by Robin Sharma for the first 10 minute block and then continued reading the Scott Carney book called What Doesn’t Kill Us.
I’ve also started looking at some Wim Hof videos on Youtube as I wanted to look into his breathing technique. I don’t think I can see myself jumping in ice baths anytime soon but I could definitely introduce some breathing techniques to my day. Actually, maybe I could do some early morning walks in the cold here in Istanbul as it’s fast becoming cooler here now. The season change from Summer to Autumn has been such a dramatic one. In Australia the Summer hangs around until you start begging it to leave. Here I’m like, what the?! I want more summer!
28th Day of the 5AM Club Morning Routine
I know I woke up late yesterday but I really do think it’s becoming just a little easier to wake up at 5AM each day. It’s like my body is now ready to get up and start the day at this time. I think I have used up all of my excuses and none of them are working, so my body just says fine, get out of bed then.
Usually I would run through excuses until I came across one that let me sleep for another 10 minutes which then turned into another hour or three. But now that I have concrete goal of being on time for 5 days every week it deals with all of the excuses for me.
An extra 10 minutes sleep because my shoulder is sore is no longer a valid excuse because the 5 days per week goal over-rides it. So there’s no argument in my head about whether to sleep a little more or not as there’s nothing to discuss. If my head wants to discuss it then it can while I do 200 push ups and 200 sit ups! Ruthlessness seems to work with my ego hehe.
Exercise: 250 push ups, 200 sit ups, 70+ minutes walking
Diet: Did have some sugar and junk food.
How Could I Improve?
I need to increase the amount of push ups and sit ups that I do throughout the day. Often I’ll just stop at the 200 of each that I do in the morning and not add to the number. It’s not good enough if I want to speed up my body transformation. I’m still carrying way too much weight.
Conclusion for Day 28 of My Morning Routine Experiment
Today there was an earthquake in Istanbul. Being on a fourth floor apartment doesn’t make the experience anymore enjoyable either. So I spent much of the afternoon wandering around outside. I also stopped at a cafe and had coffee with sugar and milk.
Hope you’ll follow along with my 5AM Club progress here.
Have a great day!
