Finally made it to the end of the week of my 5AM Club morning routine challenge! It was challenging to say the least but I’m still in the game and I’m still pushing forward with confidence and a smile ð I had some hiccups along the way but I’m adjusting and adapting as I’m super keen to improve my life on all levels (health, fitness, wealth, love, spiritually, mentally, etc).
Saturday: I decided that I will be less strict on Saturdays and have the day off on Sundays. So on day 6 which was a Saturday I still woke up at 5AM and did my 20/20/20 routine.
I did 200 push ups, 100 sit ups, and some aerobic work out to get myself sweating. Then I wrote in my daily diary for the next twenty minute block. And finally I spent 20 minutes reading the notes that I have taken from the 5AM club book by Robin Sharma. I’ll continue to re-read the notes for the next week so that I can fully absorb the ideas that he has put forward.
Throughout the day I worked in the woodworking studio with E and went for a walk in the forest later in the afternoon. So I was constructive without having any pressure to do things or tick boxes.
I also stuck to eating healthy food and kept away from sugar and wheat. So Saturday was a good day.
Sunday: This is my off day. I woke up at about 7:30AM and just had a relaxing day. I cleaned around the house a little, read a bit, watched some educational videos on Youtube, and even watched some cricket.
I didn’t go out walking and I didn’t do any intense exercises like push ups or weights. I was also eating well until dinner time when I ordered manti. It’s like a Turkish dumpling filled with meat and served with garlic yogurt. I’ve been wanting it for ages now and I have been here in Istanbul for about 8 months so I just did it! It was pretty tasty too so I have no regrets ðĪŠ
First Week of the 5AM Club Challenge
I would say this has been one of the more challenging things I have ever done. Like I said in the beginning, I am not a morning person at all. I have been this way all of my life and I think my body thought it would stay that way forever. But, things are changing and I’m committed to owning my morning and elevating my life!!
Robin Sharma talks about a 66 day minimum to install a habit through to the point of “automaticity”.
So the first 22 days of the habit installation process are about destruction. This is the messy part, the difficult part, the part where your ego is saying no thanks, I’m comfortable with how things were before!
The second 22 days of the process are about installation. You’re over-writing the old with the new. It still takes plenty of dedication and effort as nothing is automatic yet. This is the messy stage but you’re making progress.
The third 22 days of the habit installation protocol are the integration phase. This is where things start to click and the habit becomes more automatic. This is where it starts to feel weird if you don’t do the new habit. This is what Sharma calls the Automaticity Point.
5 AM Club Conclusion for Week One
I hit a few bumps, this is hard as hell, I’m still a night owl and I’m even more committed to making the 5AM morning routine a forever habit! Real change is meant to be difficult or it wouldn’t be much of a change.
I’m destroying parts of my self that have existed my whole life. I’m telling my mind and body that there’s a new Sheriff in town and he demands a 5AM wake up followed by one hour of POWER! They’re not too happy about the new Sheriff but they’ll soon realize that they have no choice but to do what they’re told. They’ll thank me later when I’m ridiculously happy, wealthy, wise, healthy and living in bliss ð
So, the show goes on. Bring on week two!
