Two weeks into the 66 day 5AM Club challenge and I’m still going strong. I haven’t created a habit of waking up at 5AM yet but I’m still working on it and I still believe in myself. I definitely recommend reading the 5AM Club book by Robin Sharma and then you can decide whether or not you’ll install the habit, but for me.. so far, so good! 👍
Saturday: I woke up at 5AM on Saturday and broke a three day run of late days that started with a 6. So I was happy about that! I also did my usual 200 pushups and 100 situps.
I was a little sore from the previous day where I went swimming for the first time in five years but I felt better as the day went on.
Unfortunately I ate some junk food later in the day. I regretted it as soon as I did it though. I made sure to be very aware of the steps leading up to buying the junk food, then eating it, and the immediate consequences of eating it. There are then longer term consequences of eating rubbish food but they’re not as easy to follow.
Just after eating the junk food my stomach felt like it was struggling. I had less energy and my mind was less focused. I was also very negative all afternoon and into the evening.
These are all things that we could normally write off as just having a bad day. But I was responsible for creating the negative state with the bad food that I was putting into my body. Or maybe I was just having a bad day but I made it worse by filling my face with bad food.
So I’m just trying to stay 100% aware and conscious of what I’m doing to my body and how it effects me. It’s about taking responsibility for your being, your mindset, your health, your emotions, your life!
Sunday: I didn’t do any exercise today and I didn’t set my alarm. I woke up at about 7:50 and took it easy for the day. I did some cleaning, some gardening and I cut some wood in the studio.
I went for an afternoon walk in the forest with E and her three dogs. I was wearing my Doc Martens shoes and they squeaked the whole way! What’s up with that?! Do they need oiling?! 👞😜
Second Week of the 5AM Club Challenge
Another week done, 14 days, 336 hours, 20,160 minutes or 1,209,600 seconds.. not that I’m counting or anything. I’m about half way through the first phase of the 66 day habit installation process (which is 22 days).
This first 22 day phase is meant to be about destruction. We’re knocking down the old to rebuild the new. There’s meant to be pain during this stage and there certainly is for me. I’ve struggled most days to get up at 5AM and some days I just want to sit around and do nothing first thing in the morning.
I usually take a an hour or two to wake up properly and now I’m getting up super early and pushing my body to sweat first thing in the morning when it’s still dark outside.
I’m not sure I can ever make that a lifelong habit but I will definitely try. I’ll give it everything I have.
5AM Club Conclusion for Week Two
If I told my old self back in Australia a year ago that I would be in Istanbul at this time, waking up at 5AM, working out for 20 minutes until I’m sweating, then writing in a journal or meditating for 20 minutes, and reading for 20 minutes, I wouldn’t believe it. Actually I wouldn’t have believed I would be living in Turkey at this time, but the 5AM thing would have just sounded silly. I was a 10AM rise man.
But here I am, happily living in Istanbul and keen to install this 5AM morning routine habit. I still have plenty of improvements to make.
The beauty of this morning routine is that it seeps into every area of your life. You start working on your health and fitness more seriously. You start to improve your thinking and the words you use with others. Your spiritual and emotional life become more important to you. And of course you start to work on your financial life more seriously.
The positive morning forces itself into the rest of your day and you can’t help but want to improve everything. Just as Robin Sharma says, Own your morning, elevate your life! It’s true. Give it a go and see for yourself.
Check out the my previous two weeks of the 5AM Club morning routine habit installation journey.
Hope you have a great week!
Take care 😀
